fromme-toyou.tumblr.com is an absolutely lovely looking photoblog on Tumblr. And… that’s exactly the problem I have with it. Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore the graphic design and I don’t even know if I could do better but… I think it’s not very suitable for a photoblog.

When designing Dark Matter, a template for Pixelpost I thought for a very long time about what kind of characteristics ‘the perfect photoblog theme’ should have. I decided the theme would need to be something that gets ‘out of the way’ as much as possible. Why? Because it’s not about the site design, it’s about the content: the photos. So I tried to come up with something pretty but totally unobtrusive when it comes to stealing attention from the site content.

If a design is too ‘pretty’ and if it has too many bells, whistles and cute looking trinkets on the page, attention is drawn away from what really matters on a photoblog: the actual photos.

Therefore: Absolutely gorgeous design but I think this would be much more suitable for a regular Tumblelog.
