HTML5: You can bet on that
I was in Las Vegas last week and I got inspired to try and create photorealistic slot machine reels in HTML5.
I have seen quite a few of Flash-based or native slot machine games that look really good but I haven’t ever found an example done with HTML, CSS and Javascript. So… I figured I’d try it. I’ve been wanting to create a cool fruit machine app for tablets and phones for a long time anyway so this makes a great start.
The experiment was a success. I did it! I created photorealistic slot reels that look and feel like a real Vegas machine. They perform very well on iOS devices so… that fruit machine app is definitely going to happen!
Since it’s the 4th of July and I’m in a generous mood I decided to share the code with you. Feel free to do with it whatever you want. It works in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, on iOS devices and most likely other mobile devices as well. I have annotated the code to help you understand what’s going on.
